Daily Study

Spend time each day in the Scriptures.  Set aside a regular time in which you spend time alone with our Lord in His Word.  For many this may mean having to rise a few minutes earlier to avoid family activities and the busyness of the day.

Do the study each week even though there might be times you know you will be unable to attend the class.  Consistency will enable you to receive the most from the study.  Tapes are available each week and may be borrowed by calling Nikki Dean @ (562) 598-3621.  There is no charge for the use of these tapes but we do ask that you return them, rewound, when you are done.  We continually 'recycle' our tapes in order to make them available for each session.

Reference Materials

For your personal study each week please use your Bible and the references included in the questions.  You are encouraged to use maps and a good Bible dictionary.  Avoid using commentaries until after the Bible Study meets for the week.  Commentaries are studies and opinions of men and women, and though they are very important tools in studying the Word of God, they can influence the spiritual insights you might receive initially.  Allow the Holy Spirit the opportunity to give you the spiritual understanding He wants for you at this time.  Please do not use information you might have gained through other resources for teaching others within your group.  This includes theology, doctrinal or technical information.  It can take away from our focus of making the Bible Study at St. Hedwig both personal and experiential.

Weekly Study Sessions

Both weekly sessions begin and finish on time (9:30-11:30 AM and 7:30-9:30 PM).  We encourage you to come even if you are delayed in arriving on time or if you have been unable to do the lesson for the week.

If you have been unable to attend the study and would like to have a copy of the questions for the next week they are available on the parish web site.  Click on the link on the left "Class Calendar and Lessons."   Lessons are also available in the gathering area of the church.

Discussion Groups

Your leader will not be sharing in the group discussion.  The leader's role is to facilitate the sharing of reflections on the readings.  When sharing on a personal question please use "I", 'me', 'my', etc., not 'we', 'our', 'us', etc.  The leader will be reminding your group periodically of the necessity of this. Please do not feel you must share on every question.  Time is limited for our sharing groups and therefore we will not be able to exhaust every possible answer.

Please remember that all things shared within the group itself are private and not to be commented on outside your group.  We respect the privacy of every member of the Bible Study.  Please do not comment on the sharing of another during the group meeting.  If you wish you can share later with that individual.

Only those who have done the study before arriving, with written answers, are permitted to share in the group.  This helps us avoid the tendency to get off track.  We do encourage you to come even if you were unable to get the questions done for that week, however you may be blessed just by listening to how the Lord is working in the lives of others.

We hope that this year will be especially meaningful for you. Pray each time you open the Scriptures for study and trust that God will be your Teacher.  If there is anything you do not understand or if problems arise, please feel free to call your leader or Carol Meckler.

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work. II Tim. 3:16,17
